Emergency Dentist in Arlington Discusses How to Handle Emergencies
November 15, 2016
There’s two things you can be sure of when a dental emergency happens, first that it won’t be convenient, and second that it may feel overwhelming and scary. The first thing to do is remain calm. When you understand how to handle a dental emergency, and you have the right team on your side, you have nothing to worry about. Dr. Prachi Shah, your emergency dentist in Arlington, discusses how to handle emergencies.
A Tooth That Has Been Dislodged
When a tooth is knocked to one side, or out of its socket, it may need to be repositioned. Contact South Arlington Dental Care right away so we can see you as soon as possible. After repositioning, your tooth may need to be splinted for a few weeks and a root canal may be necessary. Dr. Shah will monitor your tooth closely over the next few weeks in order to determine the next course of action.
A Tooth That Has Been Knocked Out
If your tooth is completely knocked out, it’s important to bring it to our office as quickly as you can. We have to best chance of saving your tooth within the first hour after injury. Transporting your tooth carefully is critical. First try to replace it back into its socket, if that’s not possible, transport it in a cup of milk to keep the cells moist and alive. Handle the tooth as little as possible and don’t use soap to clean it.
Again your tooth may need to be splinted and stabilized for a few days. A root canal may also be necessary in order to preserve your natural tooth. Getting to the dentist as soon as possible will be critical in the chances of saving your tooth.
At South Arlington Dental Care, we understand how stressful dental emergencies can be and we make every effort to accommodate your needs and see you as soon as possible.
